Regulations on Students of the University

1.

Students of the University are persons pursuing a course of study approved by the Senate, and they may be further classified as follows.

1.1

An undergraduate is a student pursuing an approved course of study for a Bachelor’s degree of the University.

1.2

A postgraduate is a student pursuing an approved course of advanced study or research leading to a certificate, diploma or higher degree of the University.

1.3

An associate student is a student pursuing an approved course of study or research not leading to a degree or sub-degree award of the University.

2.

Persons pursuing a course of study approved by the Senate, but offered outside the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, are defined as external students of the University. External students are either undergraduates or postgraduates.

3.

The Registrar shall keep a register of all students of the University. Students shall ensure that their personal particulars maintained in the University records are kept up-to-date at all times, and shall inform the University of any change to their personal particulars, especially any change to their emergency contact details.

4.

The University may require a student to be assessed by the University Medical Service Office, or other medical practitioners approved by the Director of the University Medical Service Office, if there is reason to believe that the student’s physical or mental health makes him/her unfit to study, or causes disruption or hazard to other members of the University, or causes (or has the potential to cause) harm to himself/herself or other members of the University. If, in the opinion of the Director of the University Medical Service Office, it is not in the interests of the student or the University that the student should continue his/her course of study, the Registrar shall recommend, for consideration by the Senate APC (under delegated authority from the Senate), that the student be suspended from study for a specified period, until his/her fitness to resume study is confirmed by the Director of the University Medical Service Office.
