Students graduating with the exit qualification of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Studies, will be granted exemption from 3 units of courses in the Four Areas of University General Education by taking courses in bioethics offered by the CUHK Centre for Bioethics.  Students are still required to take 2 units in Area A and 2 units in one Area of University General Education designated by the Faculty of Medicine.

Remarks:

Students will have to take either CHLT1101 “Communication in Chinese”, CHLT1301 “Creative Chinese Writing”, CHLT1302 “Oral Communication Skills”, or a 3-unit course recognized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, in order to satisfy the remaining 3-unit of Chinese Language Core Requirements.

Students are only required to take ELTU2015 “English for Law Students” (3 units). Since the course units changed from 3 to 1 unit with effect from 2022-23, students who have not fulfilled the 3-unit course requirement are required to make up for the rest of the 2 units by taking a 2-unit English language course offered by the English Language Teaching Unit.

The 2-unit Year 3 ELTU3017 “English for MBChB Programme: Medicine in the Humanities” tailor-made to the MBChB Programme includes elements other than those covered in the equivalent courses concerned.

LLB students are required to take 12 units of General Education Core Requirements, including 6 units of General Education Foundation Programme and 6 units of College General Education Requirements. Students will be directed by the Faculty of Law to take 6 units of courses in the Four Areas, including one course in Area A, as non-law electives.

Students admitted in 2015-16 to 2021-22, who are graduating with the exit qualification of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Studies, will be granted exemption of 4 units of the 21-unit General Education Core Requirements under Areas B, C and D by taking courses in bioethics offered by the CUHK Centre for Bioethics.
