Office of Student Affairs

 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is committed to providing its students with a holistic and balanced education, consisting of both formal and non-formal elements. The formal element is primarily academic pursuit, while the non-formal element includes non-academic and extracurricular activities and personal education. The Office of Student Affairs aims to facilitate the all-round personal development and growth of students of the University. We work with other professional units within the University and external resources to provide quality non-formal educational experience and support to our students. It is our goal to meet students’ progressive needs and help them realize their potential as they advance along their educational path at the University.

 

To achieve its goals, the Office of Student Affairs provides a wide range of services and programmes to our full-time students:

 

Administration and Amenities

1.

Manage various student amenities and facilities located in Benjamin Franklin Centre, John Fulton Centre, Pommerenke Student Centre, the Multi-purpose Hall at Jockey Club Postgraduate Halls 2 & 3, as well as the University Swimming Pool. 

2.

Organize the Inauguration Ceremony.

 

Career Planning and Development

1.

Organize career guidance and enrichment programmes.

2.

Connect students with employers and job information through recruitment and placement services and job portals.

3.

Engage employers to facilitate talent search and explore career opportunities ranging from internships to graduate jobs.

4.

Coordinate experiential learning programmes, such as mainland and overseas internship programmes and mentorship scheme.

5.

Provide career counselling and advisory services.

6.

Introduce students to multimedia guidance resources.

7.

Conduct graduate employment survey.

 

Learning and Cultural Enhancement

1.

Provide full-time students with consultation services to support their adjustment and planning for university life.

2.

Coordinate and implement programmes designed to enhance students learning experiences.

3.

Foster local and non-local student integration and promote internationalization through a variety of cultural diversity initiatives.

4.

Oversee the management of the International House, the i-LOUNGE, and the CUHK Cultural Enhancement Funding Scheme to foster cultural inclusion.

5.

Offer comprehensive support services to non-local students, including information on off-campus accommodation and visa matters.

6.

Foster communication and collaboration with non-local and postgraduate student associations, providing necessary support and assistance.

 

Student Experience and Development

1.

Provide guidance and support for student leaders, student bodies and associations.

2.

Coordinate and provide funding for student activities, Social Enterprise Startup Scheme (SESS), and CU-SuCCeSS, Student-run Coffee Shop Start Up Scheme.

3.

Establish WE·CARE whole-person development model to provide informal, non-formal, and whole-person education for students.

4.

Coordinate and provide Student Development Portfolio to record students’ growth and learning experiences.

5.

Organize various activities for generic skills and leadership development, providing students with experiential learning opportunities and platforms locally, in Mainland China and overseas.

6.

Coordinate and oversee university orientation activities, offering advice, guidance and support to student leaders, new students and various organizational units.

7.

Organize Outstanding Students Awards, collaborating with colleges, faculties, and professional administrative and service units to select and recognize outstanding students.

 

Wellness and Counselling

1.

Provide psychological assessment and counselling services.

2.

Provide mental health screening and follow-up support for new students.

3.

Organize workshops and programmes on psychological well-being and personal growth.

4.

Promote mental wellness through educational activities and online platforms.

5.

Offer professional training and consultation to staff on student mental health issues.

6.

Coordinate support services for students with special educational needs (SEN).

7.

Enhance mutual support and promote mental wellness among students through peer support networks.
