Office of Student Affairs

 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is committed to providing its students with a holistic and balanced education, consisting of both formal and non-formal elements. The formal element is primarily academic pursuit, while the non-formal element includes non-academic and extracurricular activities and personal education. The Office of Student Affairs aims to facilitate the all-round personal development and growth of students of the University. We work with other functional units within the University and external resources to provide quality non-formal educational experience and support to our students. It is our goal to meet students’ progressive needs and help them realize their potential as they advance along their educational path at the University.

 

To achieve its goals, the Office of Student Affairs provides a wide range of services and programmes to our full-time students:

 

Administration and Amenities

1.

Manage various student amenities and facilities located in Benjamin Franklin Centre, John Fulton Centre, Pommerenke Student Centre, the Multi-purpose Hall, 1/F, Jockey Club Postgraduate Halls 2 & 3, as well as the University Swimming Pool. 

2.

Organize the Inauguration Ceremony.

3.

Coordinate the Outstanding Student Awards.

 

Career Planning and Development

1.

Organize career guidance and enrichment programmes.

2.

Provide students with job information and placement services.

3.

Support employers with their recruitment exercises.

4.

Organize a series of experiential learning programmes, e.g. mentoring and offshore internship programme.

5.

Provide career counselling services and job market information.

6.

Provide personality/psychometric assessment and multimedia guidance resources.

 

Learning and Cultural Enhancement

1.

Offer guidance to students on adjustment and planning for university life.

2.

Organize developmental programmes for learning enhancement of students.

3.

Promote internationalization through various cultural diversity programmes.

4.

Manage the International House, the i-LOUNGE, and the Internationalization Activity Fund to promote cultural inclusion.

5.

Provide support services to non-local students. 

6.

Liaise with and provide support to associations of non-local students and postgraduate students.

 

Student Experience and Development

1.

Provide guidance and support for student leaders, student bodies and associations.

2.

Foster student development through the provision of activity funds.

3.

Offer non-formal, informal and whole-person education to students based on the I·CARE framework.

4.

Organize various leadership development and service-learning activities for students.

5.

Coordinate matters related to orientation arrangements for new students.

6.

Collaborate with government bodies, NGOs and different organizations in the community to provide local, mainland and overseas experiential learning opportunities to students.

 

Wellness and Counselling

1.

Provide psychological counselling services.

2.

Provide mental health test and stress management workshops for new students.

3.

Organize personal growth and self-development programmes.

4.

Promote mental wellness through educational programmes and activities.

5.

Offer training and consultation services to departments on matters pertaining to counselling service and mental health.

6.

Coordinate the support services for students with special educational needs (SEN).

7.

Enhance mutual support and promote mental wellness among students through peer support networks.
