Programmes Available for Declaration as Second Major

(applicable to full-time undergraduate credit-unit based programmes)

 

Students can register for two major programmes with the permission of the first major programme, and the second major programme that they intend to register.  The list of programmes that are available for students to declare as their second major is as follows:

Notes:   

 

(1)

Students who have registered for a second major may apply for an extension of study period in order to pursue the second major programme.

 

 

(2)

Students with two majors shall follow the University Core Requirements prescribed for the first major programme only, and shall be required to satisfy all the requirements of the second major programme before they can graduate with a second major, including the requirement of “completed at least two-thirds of Major requirements at this University”.

 

 

(3)

Subject to the approval of the first and second major programmes, similar courses in the two majors may be mutually recognized and such courses and units shall be counted in the requirements of both majors.  In fulfilling the overall units required for graduation, the units of those courses shall only be counted once. 

 

 

(4)

Students with two majors shall be assessed for graduation under the first major only.  No students shall be allowed to graduate if the requirements of the first major are not fulfilled even when the requirements of the second major have been satisfied.  To graduate with a second major, students must also

 

(a)

obtained a GPA of not lower than 1.5 in all courses of the second major taken which are at 2000 or above level; and

 

(b)

passed the graduation thesis/project or any other requirements as prescribed by the second major.

The degree classification of students satisfying the requirements of two majors shall be based on the GPA of the first major, overall GPA and result of the graduation thesis/project of the first major (if any). 

 

 

(6)

Students of the IBBA Programme admitted in 2018-19 and thereafter with Finance concentration will not be allowed to declare IFAA, QFIN and GLEF as second major.  Taking any two majors in IFAA, QFIN, and GLEF simultaneously is also not allowed.

 

 

(7)

Students of the IFAA, QFIN and GLEF Programmes admitted in 2018-19 and thereafter who wish to claim IBBA as second major must choose concentrations other than the Finance concentration.

 

 

(8)

Students of the PAcc Programme pursing Finance for Accountants stream admitted in 2022-23 and thereafter who wish to declare IBBA as second major must choose concentrations other than the Finance concentration.

 

 

(9)

Students of the Integrated BBA Programme (IBBA) admitted in 2022-23 and thereafter pursing Finance concentration will not be allowed to declare Professional Accountancy Programme (PAcc) with Finance for Accountants stream as second major.

 

 

(10)

Taking two majors in GLEF and Economics (ECON) simultaneously is not allowed.
